Located down a dirt road in the midst of farm fields lies this beautiful oasis.
Don’t look for it from the road, because You’re sure to miss it. It’s located around 1 mile down Carden Bottoms Rd. Look for the thick grove of trees and small pull off on your right.
Because we adventure at the most inconvenient times, we found ourselves here in August. I would suggest waiting in your journey until fall or early winter for risk of ticks, spiders, and snakes.
Carden Bottom (or Bottoms, depending on your source) was built in the 1920’s. The craftsmanship in the rockwork is truly evident, since it remains standing after the school was burned by a suspected arsonist in 2018.
The moment you step into the small woodgrove your breath will catch. You catch sight of this incredible sprawling structure that seems to go on forever.
Not much time is left for Carden Bottoms School, as nature reclaims what was hers to begin with.
